A Grateful Farewell and a Hopeful Future
As I prepare to close this remarkable chapter of my professional life, I find myself reflecting with deep gratitude and pride on the incredible journey I have shared with the American Association for Cancer Research® (AACR). Serving as chief philanthropic officer of the AACR Foundation has been the greatest honor of my career. Together, we have built something truly extraordinary—an organization whose impact on science, medicine, and humanity continues to grow stronger every year.
When I arrived at AACR more than a decade ago, I was struck immediately by the organization’s unwavering commitment to its mission. What I found then—and what has remained true ever since—is a community of passionate scientists, visionary leaders, dedicated staff, and generous supporters who all share one purpose: to accelerate progress against cancer. It has been an honor to help strengthen that mission through philanthropy, connecting people’s generosity with AACR’s groundbreaking research that saves lives.
I am especially grateful to Dr. Margaret Foti, whose leadership and friendship have been an enduring source of inspiration. Her vision, energy, and deep belief in the power of science have shaped AACR into the global force it is today. Working alongside Dr. Foti and witnessing her lifelong dedication to conquering cancer has been one of the great privileges of my professional life.
What stands out most to me from these years is not only the extraordinary scientific progress but also the humanity behind it—the researchers who dedicate their lives to discovery, the patients and survivors whose courage motivates us, and the donors whose generosity makes it all possible. Every day, I’ve seen what can happen when compassion and science come together for a common cause.
As I step away from my day-to-day role, I do so with a profound sense of optimism. The AACR has never been stronger. Its scientific leadership is unmatched, its reputation continues to grow, and its vision for the future is bold and inspiring. With new partnerships, innovative fundraising strategies, and the tireless commitment of an extraordinary team, I have every confidence that AACR Foundation will continue to expand its impact and bring us closer to the day when cancer is no longer a life-threatening disease.
To everyone who has shared in this journey—our staff, Trustees, donors, volunteers, and friends—thank you. Your belief in this mission has been both humbling and motivating. It has been one of my greatest honors to serve alongside you, and my heart will always remain with this incredible organization.
The AACR’s best days are ahead. I can’t wait to watch—and cheer—as the discoveries we’ve helped make possible continue to save lives around the world. Cancer Research Saves Lives®.
