James P. Allison, PhD, a Fellow of the AACR Academy and a former member of the AACR Board of Directors, and Tasuku Honjo, MD, PhD, a Fellow of the AACR Academy, received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their discovery of cancer therapy by inhibition of negative immune regulation. Dr. Allison is a professor and chair of the Department of Immunology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Dr. Honjo is the deputy director general and a distinguished professor at Kyoto University Institute for Advanced Study in Kyoto, Japan. With their recognition, the number of AACR members awarded a Nobel Prize increased to 68.
